I am very pleased to be involved in the beekeeping community in South Australia as the winner of the Community Empowerment award for 2020. The awards are part of the South Australian Regional Showcase and PIRSA is a major sponsor.
The project was the Build a Bee Box for fire impacted beekeepers on Kangaroo Island. There was great team work, as Beekeepers' Society of South Australia volunteers made hive boxes on the island for commercial beekeepers. Well done everyone involved.
The award is a tribute to all the wonderful beekeeping volunteers from the Bee Society of South Australia who did all the hard work on Kangaroo Island in 2020.
The 2020 Kangaroo Island bushfires devastated the over half of the island and had a tremendous impact on beekeepers on the island.
