What is happening in your beehive in April? (Southern Hemisphere)

The days are becoming shorter, and Queen’s egg production reduces further.

The brood nest reduces, and there are reducing bee numbers. Worker bees force almost all drones out of the hive. Most beekeepers will leave any honey for overwintering.

Plan to prepare your hive for winter and compact bees into one or two boxes to keep them warm.

Feed colonies with insufficient winter stores with sugar syrup.

Try to complete your wintering of hives before ANZAC Day.

The work you do in Autumn will reward you in Spring.
